This morning, I woke up a little before church and decided to go fish in the lake behind our house for a few minutes. I expected it to be more of a scouting trip since I didn't have time to really fish for much. As I got out to the lake, I noticed a few large swirls that seemed to indicate some big bass chasing minnows in the shallow water straight out from our property. I tied on a fairly big white popper and started working the water near where I'd been seeing the swirls. Sure enough, my fly soon had a big wake behind it and a nice bass exploded on it. He leapt clear out of the water half a dozen times before finally tiring out. Ended up landing the 22-inch bass pictured below after climbing through the weeds and thornbushes on the shoreline to get down to the water. Cary was still inside getting ready for church and I had left the camera, so I picked up the fish and took him around to the front door. I started to take the fish inside but that didn't go over too well with Cary. She came out and took the pictures in front of the house instead. We're both so excited to have this house, and we're sure this is just the first of many big bass that I'll pull out of our lake. After I revived the fish and he swam off, we ended up making it to church just a few minutes late.
